An awareness session on disability rights was conducted yesterday at Karakoram International University (KIU) in Gilgit-Baltistan. The event was organized by Gilgit-Baltistan’s Goodwill Movement, a charitable organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and well-being of disabled individuals in the region.

On the 26th of July 2022, the Gilgit Baltistan’s Blinds United Movement (GBBUM) protested on a one-point agenda outside the Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister’s House. The demand was that under the Persons with Disabilities, 2019, Gilgit Baltistan Act, 15 members of the Blind Community should be appointed to government jobs as soon as possible in Gilgit, while ten blind persons should be appointed in every other district of Gilgit Baltistan. The purpose of the protest was to show that the disabled community was united on this one-point agenda. Many individuals from Gilgit, Hunza, Baltistan, Chilas, and Ghizer were willing to protest until their demand was met.

One of the difficulties that disabled people face at home is how they handle their home supplies. Here at GB Goodwill Movement, we, through our New Project,’ Led Bulb Projects,’ Team GBGM show how disabled people can help towards making LED Bulbs.

On the Occasion of the Muslim tradition of Laytal A Qadr (the Night of Power), Gilgit Baltistan’s Goodwill Movement held an Iftari for the disabled community and signed an MOU with http://manzill.pk Manzill is the first private company in GB that offers ride services to GB citizens and by recognizing our voice, not only have they committed to a closer partnership on working with GBGM for disabled rights but also pitching for equal opportunities in society.
