The Gilgit Baltistan’s Goodwill Movement is pleased to announce that for the immediate future, it will aid the Hashoo Foundation and STEP for a year primarily to further the cause of disability rights within Gilgit Baltistan. The Hashoo Foundation. Hashoo Foundation is a knowledge-based and impact-oriented organization that empowers communities by leveraging knowledge as capital for their socio-economic uplift (Hashoo Group 2015, https://www.hashoogroup.com/hashoo-foundation). Umeed E Noor is one of their key projects that target Persons With Disabilities. Similarly, Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP) was conceived and initiated by persons with disabilities in 1997. Being a cross-disability organization, the Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP) is committed to mainstreaming disability in development through empowering individuals and organizations of persons with disabilities as well as sensitizing society about a rights-based approach (step.org.pk).
Speaking at Serena Hotel Islamabad, Ayesha Khan, Country Director of Hashoo Foundation, stated ‘ that it is our vision to work on disability rights issues in Gilgit Baltistan. Hashoo will want its partners GBGM to deliver their best as these individuals are from the community within itself. GBGM will not only serve its interests but also propagate and further the cause of the Hashoo Foundation concerning this ‘ . Similarly, Atif Sheikh, executive Director of STEP, said that ‘ GB as an area must employ its Persons With Disabilities in education, the workforce, etc. to match the quality of life that people typically have’.
