The Gilgit Baltistan’s Goodwill Movement runs a skill-based development center for persons with disablities. We aim to provide the skills that will help these disabled individuals in the future, whether in employment or education.GBGM was started by a struggle felt by Ghulam Muhammad Baig, a Scottish-Pakistani Disabled activist. On regular visits to Pakistan and his memory of Gilgit, he thought he was not the only one that did not fit into the ‘norm ‘ Baig, back in 2020, was doing his independent activism in Gilgit Baltistan. However, he was funding food projects that lasted only in the short term, be it one week, two weeks, or a month. As a result, he was not getting the impact that he wanted.
Baig sought to register an NGO, the Gilgit Baltistan’s Goodwill Movement, that would allow him and the team in Gilgit led by Farhan Baig, Abrar Ahmed, Mumtaz Ali, and Abdul Hakeem to execute operations that they, as disabled people, thought were fundamental. The development center is not a mere thought or an experiment; it has been proven in other countries, and it is helpful. We may not be that experienced, but to experience living with a disability is one thing, making decisions at a higher authority is another.GB Goodwill Development Center, which started in May 2022, now focuses on IT skills-based development training. Even though GBGM teaches at a basic level, where office bearers do not need qualifications, that still is an improvement for disabled people.
